What are the colors of the rainbow and why are they those colors?
A rainbow is an optical phenomenon that results from the refraction, internal reflection, and dispersion of light in water droplets, leading to a continuous spectrum of colors appearing in the sky. The standard colors of a rainbow, appearing in order from the outside to the inside, are:
- Red
- Orange
- Yellow
- Green
- Blue
- Indigo
- Violet
This arrangement occurs because when light enters a water droplet, it is bent (refracted), reflects off the back of the droplet, and is then refracted again as it exits. This process separates the light into its constituent colors, creating the multicolored arc we see. For more detailed information, you can check out the Wikipedia article on Rainbows.
